Testing the Cadac 2 Cook 3 Deluxe QR during a trip to France

Few things can beat the sizzle of sausages on a barbecue. On a recent journey through France, the Cadac 2 Cook 3 Pro Deluxe QR showed itself to be a compact yet capable portable BBQ, perfect for grilling classics wherever you go.

First Impressions & Setup

The Cadac comes in a handy, well-made travel bag that stows easily in a caravan or motorhome. Compared to a ‘normal’ Cadac, this unit is infinitely easier to store.

Straight from the carry bag and into action, the quick-release (QR) gas coupling snapped in place with zero fuss. The dual burners sparked instantly via the push-button piezo ignition, and the gas was untroubled by the breeze thanks to the protective fold-out windshields.

Flame-Grilled Burgers on the Coast

Our first proper test came with juicy burgers sizzling under a clear French sky. The ribbed grill plate somehow delivered that smoky sear reminiscent of a charcoal BBQ (or maybe I overcooked them!), complete with glorious grill marks. Grease channelled away neatly with no flare-ups.

Meanwhile, the leftover space allowed for toasting burger buns on the pot stand. Two-zone cooking in such a compact form factor was impressive.

Sausages by the Loire

Further south, a long rack of Toulouse sausages, plus perfectly sautéed mushrooms on the flat plate, showcased the BBQ’s flexibility. Even with a breeze rustling in, the windshields continued to maintain a steady flame. A word to the wise: the burners can run hot at low settings, and sausage edges charred a little faster than expected. A heat-diffuser plate would tame that flame.

Alpine Mixed Grill

In hillier regions, with temps dipping and drizzle looming, the Cadac didn’t falter. Burgers, sausages, and chicken skewers were all cooked evenly. The burners handled the altitude, and cleanup was a breeze thanks to the ceramic-coated plates. Plenty of meat for four didn’t dent gas reserves, either. It’s a compact but serious BBQ setup.

Cadac 2 Cook 3 BBQ

Verdict

As a touring BBQ, the Cadac 2 Cook 3 Pro Deluxe QR performs beautifully. Importantly, it’s a very compact set-up that stows easily in a caravan or motorhome locker. I’ve owned a Cadac Carri Chef (the 2 Cook’s bigger brother) for years, and although it’s a great piece of kit, portability can be a challenge when travelling as a family.

At £160 it’s an investment, but one justified by performance, portability, and thoughtful design.
